Mercy Ships is a global charity and its ship the M/V Africa Mercy is the world's largest non-govermental hospital ship that operates on the coast of Africa providing free surgeries to the poorest of the poor.
It has a fully equiped hospital on board with 80 beds and 5 operating rooms, intensive care unit, X-ray, CT scan and laboratory facilities.
The crew consist of volunteers from all over the world that pay their own way to the ship and their travel to the ship - 450 crew from an average of 35 nations that sign up from a few weeks to years. They have to raise their own crew fees to work on the ship - from the captain to the cook.
